6.24.99 Genitorturers show with uberkunst and Pitbull Daycare at SF's Maritime Hall.
Milkycat agent Kamio was in attendance with agent L.L. Cool B. This was Kamio's first Genitorturers experience, but she'd read about the infamous bdsm act in Skin Two magazine.

uberkunst brings the noize

When the fabulously weird Sacramento destructo-art-noize group uberkunst took the stage armed with power tools, sledge hammers and other implements of destruction, Kamio foolishly assumed that they were the Genitorturers. What a feeb! uberkunst proceeded to beat on a pile of computers, writhe about erotically, screeching and howling amidst all the destructive percussion. There was a fetishy edge to the performance, a combination of lingere and safety gear. They catapulted oldschool porno magazines in to the audience, and huge gwar-esque death guys came out, beating down the performers. After a pretty short set, they just stopped. They were either shut down, or they'd destroyed everything they'd brought along to destroy. I ran in to one of the performers in the ladies', and we talked about the show while she was getting cinched in to a corset. uberkunst is my kind of scene. They have a concept that borders on gimmickry, but it works. I'll be watching for upcoming shows.

Then came Pitbull Daycare, a remarkably slick industrial/techno rock band from Texas. Before they told us that they hailed from Texas, I guessed they were from LA. They had a freaky, fetishy thing going on, tattooed and wearing latex and pvc (probably inspired by touring with the Genitorturers, I mean, who wouldn't be freaky and fetishy after opening for them?) Their sound was reminiscent of something, i don't know what, sort of a little NIN, maybe? Maybe a little Stabbing Westward? Something along those lines, but not really derivative at all. I got in to them. They rocked the house, and had everyone moving. Their sound is hard, but consumable, and danceable. They have this guy, Norm, who's all kinds of eyecandy, doing a sort of angry industrial gogo dance thing, and it definitely works in some odd way. I took a bunch of photos, but only a couple turned out. They were also really cool guys, talking to people after the show.

And then the Genitorturers took the stage, and they just ruled. They offered nudity, bdsm, torture, play-piercing, nazi-style dominas, penetration, giant thrusting mechanical phalluses, latex nuns and catholic schoolgirls, fetish gear, corsetry, audience participation, the whole damned thing. It's one of those shows that really has to be experienced to comprehend. There was a play-piercing scene that got pretty intense, and blood was shed. They have a great sense of showmanship, and musically, they're noisy, a little metal, a little punk, very slick, very loud. They rocked the house. And the crowd was a weird mix of metalheads, bdsm freaks, industrial heads, goths and pervy guys, but they all got really into the show. The Genitorturers also have the best merch! LL and I got ourselves some "GENITORTURERS SODOMIZED MY HONOR STUDENT" bumper stickers. Also a friendly group.
